We know that referring someone from your congregation to a therapist requires trust — in the clinician, in their training, and in their understanding of the world your people live in. At Forbes IFT, a significant portion of our team comes directly from ministry or Christian higher education. Several served as pastors. Others trained at Biola, Vanguard, Fuller, or Cal Baptist — not incidentally, but because that formation shapes how they understand people, suffering, and healing.
Our hope is to support your work — not replace it. Ministry leaders carry their people through an enormous range of struggles, and there are areas where clinical care can come alongside what you're already doing to ensure the person receives truly comprehensive support. That's the partnership we're after.
Our approach is depth-oriented: we believe real change requires more than coping strategies. It requires understanding the emotional and relational patterns underneath the surface — the ones shaped by early experience, attachment wounds, and formative relationships. Every clinician listed here is accepting new clients and offers a free 15-minute consultation. We're glad to be a resource to your community.
We offer complimentary, pro-bono workshops and trainings for both church staff and congregations. Our goal is to equip your community with practical, clinically grounded tools — delivered from a Christian perspective.
As a former pastor, Bryan Forbes offers complimentary consultative support to pastors in Orange County navigating challenging dynamics with congregants who are struggling with mental health issues — helping you think through how to care well, when to refer, and how to hold the complexity of what you're seeing.
As a way to give back and support the work of Orange County churches, all workshops, trainings, and consultative pastoral support by Forbes Individual & Family Therapy is pro bono. We believe in this partnership and want to assist in further equipping the church.
When someone in your congregation is ready for clinical support, the easiest next step is a free 15-minute consultation. It's low-barrier, no-commitment, and gives us a chance to understand what they're facing and match them with the right clinician. You're also welcome to reach out directly on their behalf — we're happy to help you think through the referral before they make contact.
