Individual Therapy In Orange County
Individual therapy is a dedicated space to slow down, explore your inner world, and understand why you feel, think, and relate the way you do. At its best, therapy isn’t just about symptom reduction—it’s about making sense of patterns that have quietly shaped your life and loosening their grip so something new becomes possible.
At Forbes Individual & Family Therapy, individual therapy is a collaborative, reflective process. We’re not here to “fix” you. We’re here to help you understand yourself more fully, with depth, nuance, and compassion—so change can actually last.
What It Will Feel Like at Forbes Individual & Family Therapy
Many clients tell us that therapy here feels different than what they expected—in a good way.
You can expect sessions to feel:
Relational and human, not clinical or scripted
Thoughtful and attuned, with a therapist who is actively listening and emotionally present
Curious rather than corrective, focused on understanding before changing
Emotionally safe, even when exploring difficult or uncomfortable material
We pay close attention to what unfolds between you and your therapist—your reactions, hesitations, emotions, and moments of connection. These experiences often mirror patterns in your outside relationships, making therapy a powerful place for insight and growth.
What Individual Therapy Is Used to Treat
Individual therapy can support a wide range of emotional, relational, and psychological concerns, including:
Anxiety, chronic worry, or panic
Depression, numbness, or low motivation
Relationship struggles and attachment patterns
Life transitions, identity shifts, or existential concerns
Trauma, complex trauma, or developmental wounds
Burnout, overwhelm, or chronic stress
Grief, loss, or unresolved past experiences
Low self-esteem, shame, or harsh self-criticism
Repeating patterns that “make sense” intellectually but still won’t change
Many clients come in saying, “I know why I do this—but I still do it.” Individual therapy helps bridge that gap between insight and real change.
How Long Individual Therapy Typically Lasts
Depth-oriented individual therapy is not designed to be rushed.
While some clients experience meaningful relief within a few months, the best and most durable outcomes tend to occur when therapy unfolds over time—often 6 months to a year or longer, depending on your goals, history, and life circumstances.
This allows space to:
Build a strong therapeutic relationship
Understand long-standing emotional and relational patterns
Work through—not just around—core issues
Integrate change in a way that holds up outside the therapy room
We regularly revisit goals together and collaborate around pacing, focus, and direction.
